High Commissioner’s Residence

During heavy renovation work in Papeete in the 60’s, the former governors’ residence has been destroyed and built again in 1966 in a “neo-Polynesian” style with five very slopping roofs that symbolize the five archipelagos of French Polynesia. Nowadays the High commissioner, usually called “Haussaire”, lives there and as a delegate of the French government he is in charge of the national interests and of the respect of law and order.
